Something Sunday --- B

Yes a very simple title just B but oh the amazement that comes with it.  B is a good friend's son and is turning his paper work in to serve a 2 year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  As part of the process an application is filled out saying you want to go.  Along with the application they require a photo.  I begged and pleaded to be the one to take them.  For the photographers out there this is a 2.9" x 3 1/2" crop set at 92dpi.  this is the requirement of the photo.  Here are my two favorites.

As a missionary some 20 plus years ago I can anticipate the excitement he is experiencing at this time, but this time around I get to learn the rest of the story as well.  He will be fantabulous as a missionary!!!

Something Sunday --- Gallery walks

I have a goal this year and it has to do with the gallery walks that are in Logan every three months.  It is really quite simple.  Each one this year I will submit 3 photos.  Sounds simple right I mean I took 19,786 photos last year should be some good ones right.  Well my challenge is that I have to take the picture during the 3 months between walks.  I am also trying very hard to see these photos sell so they have got to be good not only to me but others.  Makes for a tough challenge you see I like all my photos well the decent and good ones but to figure out what others like... that is a little tougher.  Here are the 3 I submitted for the Feb. 2012 walk.

Something Sunday --- Lighting

Yes it is what a photographer does we capture light on a film or sensor depending on your camera.  I have strictly been what is called a natural light shooter.  I would take what I could find and make it the image I wanted using glass mirrors then reflectors and windows even.  Well I am evolving as a photographer and as I do I am finding it just is not good enough sometimes.  I recently shot a wedding and the lighting was not good at all.  Well I was introduced to the flash at this point.  Yes regrettably I used the little pop up flash on the camera as I had no choice it was that or no pictures...

So in my quest to find light and not liking the little pop up I have once again evolved.  Amazing how that happens.  I am now putting the flash off camera.  I have asked for several models with no success so I figured I needed to step up to the plate.

I guess the important thing is that we learn we grow and improve.  Same as with life huh!

Something Sunday --- Lab and Self Portraits

During the open lab this week of the Cache Valley SMUG.  I took some photos of L's daughters.  It was a great time learning about lighting and other fun things.  I then used that to make some self portraits.  I will start with the cute ones and end with the nightmares!!!  Enjoy.



It was fun working with these girls and their father.  Hope the shoot they had planned Saturday was awesome!




Now let the nightmares begin!!!



I was after all working on the lighting.  I even discovered afterwards my camera was on the wrong setting...  Learn Learn Learn that is the name of the game.
